Natural hair and moisture

On my previous post I talked about how I had flat-ironed my hair but was never flatironing it again. I noticed that while it was flatironed, the longer I went without moisture (spritzing my hair with my water bottle and adding extra virgin olive oil) to it nightly because I didn't want it to revert back after how long it took me to flat iron, the more brittle my ends got and how much my hair seemed to break off..now that I have went back to washing it and adding water and olive oil to it nightly, my hair is so soft and is back to life. I can definitely say that moisture is key to having healthy natural hair and I had to learn that the hard way.

Hair Dilemma

So last month I flatironed by hair before I came down to Alabama before my best friend's babyshower I was throwing her. I love the results and I mainly rolled my hair every night to get the curls back in. So about 3 weeks later, I decided to wash my hair because I wanted my kinks and curls back. Lets just say about 3/4 of my hair reverted back and 1/4 didnt. I decided I dont ever want to flat iron my hair again. Right now Im washing it every 14 days and moisturizing it nightly with water and olive oil to help get my curls back all over. And I know I have to keep it moisturized because my hair is shedding really bad and Im not sure if that is due to the protein treatments I have started putting in them but Im laying off all that for a while and going back to nightly moisturizing my hair, massaging my scalp and my protective styles. I guess if its not broke then dont fix it.

Wash and Go Results

Well I tried the Wash and Go twice and I honestly don't think its for me. My hair is always nice and curly in the back but as I move toward the front, it was more bushier and then the conditioner flaked up. Maybe I will give it another go but for now, I will stick to protective styling and rod sets.

Wash Day and Wash and Go

Since today was wash day, I decided to co-wash my hair again using the As I Am Co-Wash Conditioner. Again, it went in smooth but when I rinsed it out, I started to get that waxy feeling again; that was until I turned the water from hot to cool..Then it felt fine and my hair was soft and manageable. I am trying the wash and go today for the 1st time and used the Tresemme Naturals Conditioner. My hair felt soft when I put it in so we will see how it looks once it has completely dried. I have never been a wash and go girl before. I am all about protective styling but the one thing I have learned from being natural is that you have to try different things with your hair to continue to keep it healthy and growing.

As I Am Co-Wash Conditioner

So I decided to co-wash my hair about two weeks ago using just conditioner. I went to Sally's and got the As I am Co-Wash conditioner. I had read reviews about it how just using the WEN would be better but I decided to give it a go. I cant say that I was happy about it the first time around..going in it was fine it just seemed as though when I washed it out my hair was kind of waxy. However, since I have to wash my hair again, I am going to do to another co-wash and see how the conditioner fairs this time.

Will keep you posted

Working on retaining hair growth

So today is December 30th 2011. I measured my hair to see how much it has grown. The front is 10 inches long, the back is 9 inches long, the right side is 11 inches and the left side is 10 inches. So surely but slowly my hair is growing. I have been using Hydratherma naturals for the past couple of months and taking the Hairfinity hair vitamins so I can see that has been helping a lot. I am thinking of trying the GC (curly girl method) where I only use conditioner in my hair (and my oils) just to see how much better (if any) conditioner along is than shampoo. I am also going to put myself on a protective style challenge for 20 weeks (doing braids and two-strand twists). Furthermore, I see I need to also change my diet and do more exercising as they go hand in hand with retaining hair length. ONE THING I love about the Hydratherma naturals products is that it balances moisture and protein which are both critical to retaining hair length. I will keep everyone posted.
